Waxing is more than simply removing unwanted hair. The products used, the technique, skin preparation and hygiene standards can all make a difference to your waxing experience.
At J’Aura, we use the LYCON Precision Waxing System, a professional waxing system developed in Australia and used by salons and spas internationally. LYCON is designed to provide effective hair removal while keeping the waxing experience as comfortable and gentle as possible.

What makes LYCON different?
LYCON waxes are formulated with natural and synthetic resins, pure Australian beeswax and aromatherapy ingredients.
The system is designed to remove stubborn hair as short as 1mm, while its low-temperature and highly pliable formulas are designed to be gentle on the skin. This makes LYCON particularly useful for areas where comfort and careful skin handling are important.
Designed for Sensitive Areas
LYCON offers different wax formulations for different areas and skin needs.
Hot wax is used for areas such as the face, intimate areas and sensitive areas.
LYCON also offers formulations containing Titanium Dioxide for clients requiring extra-sensitive skin considerations.
The LYCOjet range is designed to effectively remove stubborn hair from sensitive areas, while LYCOdream combines traditional hot wax with a modern film-wax formula for additional pliability. For larger body areas such as the legs, arms, chest and back, LYCON strip waxes are formulated specifically for efficient large-area waxing.
Your J’Aura Waxing Experience
1. Consultation & skin check: Before your treatment, your therapist will discuss the area you want waxed and check your skin.
-
Previous waxing experiences
-
Skincare products such as Retinol or Retin-A
-
Medications
-
Recent facial, peel, laser or IPL treatments
-
Skin irritation or sensitivity
-
Your preferred level of hair removal
-
This consultation helps us determine whether waxing is appropriate for your skin on the day.
2. Professional skin preparation
Your therapist will wear fresh gloves and prepare the skin using professional LYCON pre-wax products.
The skin is cleansed before waxing, and for hot waxing, a pre-wax treatment oil is used. This helps create the appropriate surface for the wax to grip the hair rather than unnecessarily pulling at the skin.
3. Careful wax application
Depending on the treatment area, wax is applied using a spatula or cartridge and removed swiftly. Your therapist may ask you to adjust your position during the treatment so the area can be reached safely and effectively.
4. Soothing post-wax care
After waxing, the area is cleansed and a soothing lotion or oil is applied to help rejuvenate and moisturise the skin.
Hygiene Is Our Priority
At J’Aura, we believe professional waxing should always include professional hygiene practices.
-
Fresh gloves for every client
-
No double-dipping of waxing spatulas
-
Wax and strips are not reused
-
Treatment equipment and surfaces are sanitised after every client
-
Fresh bed sheets and towels for every client
-
Disposable items are changed or replaced after every service
-
Because beautiful skin starts with a clean treatment environment.
What if I use Retinol or Retin-A?
Please always tell your therapist if you use Retinol, Retin-A, Roaccutane/Isotretinoin or similar skincare products.
LYCON’s professional guidance states that clients using Roaccutane or Retin-A require particular care.
Hot wax may only be considered when the skin is not thin, inflamed, peeling or flaky, and strip wax should not be used in these circumstances.
When in doubt, tell us before your appointment. Your skin comes first.
How to Prepare for Your Wax
-
Avoid waxing over irritated or sunburned skin.
-
Let your therapist know about Retinol, Retin-A, Roaccutane, AHAs, BHAs or other active skincare products.
-
Tell us if you have recently had a facial, chemical peel, laser or IPL treatment.
-
Avoid shaving immediately before your waxing appointment.
-
Follow the preparation advice provided by your J’Aura therapist.
-
Most importantly, don't worry about asking questions. Your consultation is part of the treatment.
What Should I Do After Waxing?
Your skin may experience some temporary redness or sensitivity after waxing. This can be a normal reaction.
For the first 24 hours, LYCON recommends avoiding:
-
Heat
-
Excessive sweating
-
Friction
-
Swimming
-
Tight clothing
-
Sun exposure
For intimate waxing, loose cotton underwear can help minimise friction and allow the skin to breathe.
-
For facial waxing, avoid applying makeup immediately after the treatment.
-
Looking after your skin between waxing appointments
-
Regular moisturising can help keep the skin comfortable. If you are prone to ingrown hairs, LYCON recommends dedicated ingrown-hair care and gentle exfoliation as part of your ongoing routine.
-
Avoid picking or squeezing ingrown hairs yourself.
-
Professional advice is recommended instead.
